GRAND RAPIDS | GENERAL MANAGER
Planet Rock is very excited to join the climbing community in Grand Rapids and its surrounding area.
The General Manager plays a key role in the daily functions of the gym, as well as being an integral part of future projects + events. This position oversees multiple areas; such as administrative, front desk, procedural, staff resources, scheduling and coordinating groups/events. Ensuring each operates smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
We are looking for applicants interested in supporting the positive Planet Rock culture we climb in daily. Our goal is to help climbers feel respected, welcomed, valued and excited to be a part of our community, no matter their climbing ability level or prior climbing experience.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
- be a point of contact for all things Planet Rock; engage new customers, maintain member loyalty, become an active part of our community
- provide strong leadership by setting a clear direction, motivating employees, and fostering a positive work culture
- oversee day-to-day operations and report operational effectiveness
- partner with other team leaders to support organizational objectives and ensure Planet Rock’s mission, vision, and values are being met
- participate in monthly administrative meetings
- manage front desk staff and operations; new customers, sales, schedules, member check-in, pro shop sales
- recruit, retain, perform evaluations and reviews for staff
- update and implement daily policy + procedures
- staff training; new hires, safety clinics, lesson procedures, daily operations
- provide stellar customer service to everyone who enters our community
- create, clearly communicate, and manage a work schedule that supports the operational requirements and demands of the business
REQUIRED SKILLS + QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of management experience
- experience in the indoor climbing industry preferred
- previous climbing and belaying experience preferred
- brings a positive attitude to every shift
- strong communication skills
- strong customer service skills
- weeknight + weekend availability
- key skills include attention to detail, strong self management skills, problem-solving skills, relationship-building skills, excellent time management, and adaptability\
- creates a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who comes in the door
- lives or planning to be in Grand Rapids or it’s surrounding area
- technical skills: Capitan software, Lightspeed, Google Workspace (familiarity with social media a plus!)

This is a full-time position with availability to work weekend + evening shifts as needed.
